“Be open to the changes and make sure you bring out more of yourself in your essays.”
– Jordan Kanarek helping a Curio student edit their essay
Every day of the Essay Workshop, Curio students bravely venture into the unknown with optimism and a positive attitude. Everyone has different strengths that make you want to know about their wonderful stories.
We will focus on three new students that stood out during our Essay Workshop. This time we will learn how their counselors and mentors prepared them so that their personal statements and supplemental essays will make them stand out to admission officers.
Kevin is a responsible, helpful and persistent student. His first volunteer experience was at New York University in finance. With the help of counselors, Jordan and Michael, he confidently finished his personal statement and university application.
We believe that he is steadily moving towards his ideal career of becoming an investment analyst.
Emily is a girl who spreads joy. Her happy smile always brings a lot of positive energy to everyone. With the help of her mentor Nikayla, on the third day, she completed her personal statement and 4 supplemental essays for the University of California system (UC).
The theme of her personal statement was about when she got lost on a family trip in Germany. Her courage and resourcefulness helped turn her situation into a chance to meet new friends. She hopes to study business at Wake Forest University.
Steve is applying for six arts and design colleges and six business management colleges. He has to prepare a large number of application essays, but also work on his art portfolio. With the help of Curio counselors, Steve feels that the process was not stressful, but rather fun. Steve is characterized by his courage to be innovative and hardworking.
His dream school is the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).
We love to help build connections between people and build a supportive learning community.
Whether it’s a mentor helping students improve their study habits, improve their emotional management and life skills, or a college counselor providing students with personalized guidance and support for studying abroad, at Curio we often say “Propel Your Aspirations”. We want students, not just to get into university, but succeed on their own terms.
Every summer, our Essay Workshop gathers students who are about to enter the 12th grade. Based on their own unique characteristics, our counselors help to personalize their stories, improve their writing skills, and familiarize them with all the different university application systems. Curio also hopes that all students will become “fighters” and learn how to get accurate information while having an amazing experience during the workshop.
What a perfect end to the Essay Workshop. Each student was able to tell “their story” and show admissions officer the best versions of themselves. Curio counselors and tutors will continue to help our students navigate their study abroad applications while they all reach confidently for their dreams.
